Early morning fire damages Ala Wai condo

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A fire in an unoccupied unit at a condo on Ala Wai Blvd. forced some residents to evacuate as firefighters worked to extinguish the flames.

Fire investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire, which broke at just after midnight on Tuesday on the 26th floor of a building at 2121 Ala Wai Blvd.

The fire was confined to the one unit. Eight units responded to the alarm, and had the fire under control within 15 minutes of their arrival, according to a Honolulu Fire Department spokesperson. Most of the damage was done to the unit's living room.

"A good stop in an older building, not sprinkled, so getting a good fire attack is important to keep the fire spreading to other properties," said Capt. Terry Seelig. "In this case, a well done job."

No one was injured during the fire. The unit's owner reportedly lives outside of Hawaii.
