Two men arrested for assault during wrestling tournament

KALIHI, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A Junior Varsity wrestling tournament at Farrington High School got out of hand Saturday when a man punched a referee in the face.

The incident started when a match between a student from Roosevelt and Waianae came to an end. Having lost, the Roosevelt student was upset and the boy's father allegedly walked down from the bleachers and confronted the referee.

According to witnesses, the wrestler's brother, who is also a volunteer coach at Roosevelt, blind sided the referee and punched him the face.

Both Bernard Moore Senior, 47, and Junior, 25, were arrested for assault.

The matches were stopped for about 45 minutes while the coaches got a debriefing of what happened.

The referee was not hurt too badly and was able to officiate the rest of the tournament.
