HONOLULU – The #6 ranked Oregon Ducks shut out the Rainbows in UH's baseball season opener Friday night.   Jake Reed threw 6 innings of shutout ball, allowing 4 hits while striking out 7 and walking 2.  Christian Jones relieved him and tossed 3 more scoreless innings to complete the blanking for Oregon.

UH's Scott Squier, who was named the opening night starter after Jarrett Arakawa was lost for the season, lasted 4 2/3 innings, allowing 2 earned runs on 4 hits and 3 walks.  He struck out 2.

Squier walked home a run in the second inning after loading the bases, but escaped further damage.  He allowed an RBI single in 5th, but was saved from allowing another when Trevor Podratz blocked the plate on a throw from leftfielder Adam Hurley.

Oregon's final run came on a squeeze play in the 7th.

The four game series runs through Monday.
