In a week that saw U.S. hotels
run only 56 percent full, Hawaii hotels had 87.4 percent occupancy, Hospitality
Advisors LLC reported Friday.
Oahu, with about half the hotel rooms in the state, was
91.2 percent full, about five full percentage points fuller than the same week
last year, with room rates up 23.5 percent from then, due to international
visitors flying to Hawaii to celebrate the lunar new year.
Maui hotels were 86.6 percent full, slightly fuller than
last year, with room rates up 7 percent from year-before levels to an average
$277 a night.
Kauai occupancy was 81 percent, four points better than
last year, with an average room rate of $221 that was up 13 percent from
year-before levels.
Big Island hotels were 79.1 percent full, 7.5 points
better than last year, with room rates up 4.4 percent to an average $206 a
night.
By contrast, national hotel room rates average 5.2
percent higher than year-before levels, and occupancy was between 74 and 75
percent in Los Angeles and Orlando, Smith Travel Research LLC reported.
