Maui resort worker arrested after bags disappear

WAILEA, Maui (HawaiiNewsNow) - A Maui resort worker was arrested Monday after a visitor discovered her bags were missing.

According to the Maui Police Department, a couple visiting from Marysville, Michigan arrived at a Wailea resort, checked their bags and proceeded to the pool to wait until their room was ready.

Police say a few minutes later, the female visitor returned to the bell desk and asked if she could get something from one of the bags.  A check of the storage room found that all of their bags were missing.  Security personnel and hotel managers conducted a search but could not find the bags.

A few minutes later, another check of the storage room, revealed that the bags had returned minus jewelry and a camera totaling $11,100.

A review of video surveillance of the storage room revealed that a resort houseman, identified as John Bueno, entered the room through the service elevator, picked up and concealed the bags on his work cart and exited the room.

A few minutes later, the video surveillance shows Bueno returning the bags to a bellman cart in the storage room.

Bueno was placed under arrest for theft in the second degree he is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
