No tsunami threat to Hawaii after another Kuril Islands quake

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A 6.7 magnitude earthquake hit in waters off of the Kuril Islands near Russia early Friday morning, but it was not strong enough to generate a tsunami threat to Hawaii.

The earthquake struck at around 3:21 a.m. HST. and had a depth of 21 miles.

On Thursday, an 6.9 magnitude earthquake in the same vicinity struck at around 4:05 a.m. HST., with a depth of 49 miles.
