Police called to overnight stand-off in Ewa beach

Between approximately 8 p.m. Monday and 1 a.m. Tuesday, members of the Honolulu Police Department were involved in a standoff in Ewa Beach with a man who refused to come out of his home.

Members of HPD's Specialized Services Division were called to the home on Kaukolu Place to help patrol officers who had been responding to an argument between the man, 55, and an unknown relative.

Police say they took the necessary precautions, and eventually the man came out of the house and surrendered to authorities.

The man was taken into custody and transported to a hospital in good condition for a mental health evaluation.

Police say the man has not yet been placed under arrest for the incident.
