Ala Moana Celebrates The Year Of The Snake

(Hawaii News Now) -  Make way for good fortune and welcome the "Year of the Snake" at Ala Moana Center's Chinese New Year celebration. The Center will offer three days of vibrant entertainment filled with cultural performances, and of course, lion dancing. This year, shoppers also have the chance to take home an exclusive gift-with-purchase to commemorate the New Year. Shoppers with receipts totaling $150 or more can redeem them at Customer Service Center for a special set of three die-cut Year of the Snake greeting cards. Receipts must be dated from Feb. 1-16. Offer is good while supplies last.

On Feb. 13, 15 and 16, shoppers are invited to celebrate with Center-wide performances and special appearances:

  • Wednesday, Feb. 13 & Friday, Feb. 15 in the Nordstrom Wing

5:30 p.m. – Kung Fu Demonstrations by Wah Ngai Lion Dance Association
Centertainment Stage on Mall Level 3, Nordstrom Wing

6:00 p.m. – Chinese Lion Dance on Poles performance by Wah Ngai Lion Dance Association
Mall Level 2, Nordstrom Wing

  • Saturday, Feb. 16 – The Grand Finale

Noon – Kung Fu Demonstrations by Wah Ngai Lion Dance Association
Centertainment Stage on Mall Level 3, Nordstrom Wing

Following the kung fu demonstrations, shoppers can enjoy the sights and sounds of more than twenty lions spreading good luck and collecting lai see (red envelopes) from the stores. Lion dancers from Wah Ngai Lion Dance Association, Chinese Lion Dance Association, Chinese Physical Culture Association, Hawaii Lion Dance Association, Koko Head Martial Arts Academy, Lung Kong Physical Culture Association and Gee Yung Martial Arts, Dragon and Lion Dance Association will visit over 100 merchants throughout the Center.
