Managers working in manufacturing or services such as healthcare, must deal with problems everyday. But despite their best efforts, the same problems keep coming back. Rather than moving toward a state of continuous improvement, they are stuck in firefighting mode.
There is a better way, according to the nonprofit Lean Enterprises Institute (LEI), which will present the 60-minute free webinar “Getting to Everyday Improvement:How to Connect the Science and Culture of Problem Solving” on February 14, 2013, at 2pm (Eastern) .
LEI faculty members Judy Worth and Beau Keyte will show managers a proven method for solving the root causes of problems. The method emphasizes two key concepts that connect the science and culture of problem solving:
- How to design and run small reversible experiments that avoid the pitfalls of many traditional kaizen activities
- How to foster the “socialization” of problems to get stakeholders personally vested in solving problems and working together
Worth and Keyte will explain:
- The benefits of integrating small, reversible experiments, compared to traditional kaizen activities
- The social conflicts to avoid in lean transformations
- The benefits and aspects of "socialization" in problem solving
- The steps to consider in socialization and rapid experiments
The methodology and its application in healthcare is described in detail in the just-published Perfecting Patient Journeys from LEI, which shows readers how to select a problem in a specific value stream, define a project scope for a problem-solving effort, and create a shared understanding of what’s occurring in the value stream.
The webinar will share results from applications in manufacturing, healthcare, and other service industries.
