U.S. Marshals have arrested a man who was on the run for 22 years.
Salvador Orozco was arrested Thursday evening without incident at 266 Puunene Ave. in Kahului, Maui.
Orozco, 48, was wanted by law enforcement authorities in Great Britain for one count of rape, one count of indecent assault.
On the evening of May 17, 1990, Orozco allegedly attacked and raped the victim at a bus station while she was on her way home. After the incident, Orozco fled to the United States where he had eluded authorities for over 22 years.
Last July, British Embassy officials sought the assistance of the United States Justice Department in locating, arresting and extraditing Orozco back to Great Britain. The investigation led to Hawaii, where the Hawaii Fugitive Task Force was able to locate Orozco residing on the Island of Maui.
The Hawaii Fugitive Task Force is comprised of the Hawaii State Sheriffs, Maui Police Department, Hawaii Police Department, Kauai Police Department, Honolulu Police Department, State of Hawaii- Attorney General's Office, and Honolulu City and County Prosecutor's Office.
