(Hawaii News Now) - The Inaugural Hawaii Ukulele Museum Benefit Concert will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2013 on the Great Lawn of the Hilton Hawaiian Village. The concert is a benefit for a planned Hawaii Ukulele Museum to be constructed at Kaka'ako Waterfront Park. Ukulele All-Stars from Hawaii such as Raiatea Helm, John Cruz and Ho'okena join Ukulele All-Stars from Japan such as BEGIN for this benefit concert
The concert is part of the Ukulele Picnic Weekend, the largest annual ukulele festival in Hawaii. The weekend kicks off with a Ukulele Contest and Hula Show at the Hyatt Regency Waikiki on Saturday, February 9 from 11:00am to 4:00pm. The contest is free and open to the public. Following the contest that evening is the Hawaii Ukulele Museum Benefit Concert at the Hilton Hawaiian Village.
On the following day, Sunday, February 10, 2013 at the Kaka'ako Waterfront Park is the 5th Annual Ukulele Picnic. This all-day event takes place from 10:00am to sunset and includes non-stop Ukulele performances. There is also food and drink for sale, ukulele vendors and Hawaiian craft vendors. A children's activity section will also be at the Ukulele Picnic. The event is free and open to the public.
The Hawaii Ukulele Museum Benefit Concert will be a star-studded lineup of entertainers from Japan and Hawaii, headlined by BEGIN, a popular group from Okinawa. Also performing are Raiatea Helm, John Cruz, Ho'okena, Benny Chong, Byron Yasui and the Ukulele Orchestra from Japan. Doors open at 5:30pm and the show begins at 6:00pm. Tickets are available for purchase on the Ukulele Picnic website or through the Ticketmaster box office.
