Comedian Jo Koy

Posted: Updated:

(Hawaii News Now) - You've seen him on those VH-1 specials like "I Love The 90's", and he's so good, they had to add another show here in Hawaii to accommodate his fans!  Comedian Jo Koy has returned to Hawaii for a few shows here in the islands this weekend.  Click here for more ticket information.

Koy, who is one of the hottest entertainers working in comedy today, has added a second Oahu show to his Hawaii performances.   The first Oahu show on Friday, February 8 is sold out.  The second show will be on Saturday, February 9 live at The Republik.  Tickets for the second show are on sale now.  Jo Koy will also be performing live on Maui on February 10, 2013.

Jo can be seen weekly as a regular guest on E!'s "Chelsea Lately" and Comedy Central recently premiered his latest stand up special "Jo Koy: Lights Out" which is currently available on DVD.   In addition, Jo is currently on the Lights Out comedy tour, and will tour nationally throughout the year.

In January 2009, Comedy Central premiered Jo's first standup special "Don't Make Him Angry".  Brandishing his energetic physicality and the wacky impersonations he is known for, Jo tackles hilarious instances of road rage, recalls some of the worst places he's ever had to visit while touring, and shares some of his most intimate family moments.  The special quickly solidified Jo's approachable style and unquestionable talent, easily earning Jo a legion of new fans.

Such attention has come not only from fans, but also from the industry, as indicted by Daily Variety naming him one of the "10 Comics to Watch". Raised in Tacoma, Washington, Jo credits his Filipino mother for his comedic and acting talents.  Growing up, his mother constantly encouraged him to take part in school talent shows or present impromptu performances for his family and friends. This encouragement led to the Las Vegas coffee house, then a move to Los Angeles and finally a performance on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" in 2005.  Jo became one of a select few to ever receive a standing ovation on the show.  From there, the opportunities flooded in.

Following that performance, Jo joined the Carlos Mencia's stadium-only Punisher Tour, and went on to make late night appearances on "Jimmy Kimmel Live", "Last Call with Carson Daly", "Lopez Tonight," BET's "Comic View", Jamie Foxx Presents: "Laffapalooza", and made numerous appearances on VH1 specials.  He became a fixture on the comedy festival circuit, and landed himself on the list of most requested hot new comedians across the country.  In addition to his comedy specials and TV appearances, Jo is a regular featured comedian at clubs, colleges and theatres across the country as well as internationally.
