No tsunami threat to Hawaii after more strong earthquakes in Pacific

For the second time in less than a week, a strong earthquake shook an area off of the Solomon Islands on Friday morning, but it does not appear to have been strong enough to generate a tsunami threat to Hawaii.

Update at 5:38 a.m. on Friday: Another earthquake, a 7.0 magnitude, was registered in the same region at approximately 5:26 a.m. this morning. No tsunami threat at this time. 

The U.S. Geological Survey says a series of strong aftershocks were also felt in the region. 

The quake was measured at a magnitude 7.1, according to the U.S.G.S.

The earthquake happened at 10:18 p.m. HST, and the quakes epicenter was 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) beneath the seabed.
