Rainbow Warriors Win Shootout

HONOLULU – The Rainbow Warriors waited 19 days to play a game at home.  In the first half against Long Beach State, they let out their pent up energy.

Gib Arnold's team used two separate runs, a 14-0 to turn a 5-2 deficit into a 16-5 lead early on, and a 15-3 stretch that made the game a blowout before intermission.

UH led 53-20 at the break, shooting 59% from the field while holding 'The Beach' to 5 made field goals.

However, the second half was a different story.  The 49ers used an aggressive full court press to shave 19 points off the lead.  The crowd at the Stan Sheriff Center was like the UH team, visibly unsettled.

The two teams traded baskets before the 49ers surge finally ebbed.  UH wound up 'surviving' with a 94-73 win.

The victory was the team's 4th in a row, lifting them to 8-4 in Big West play.  The Beach dropped to 9-2 in conference.

Christian Standhardinger had 20 points and 13 rebounds, Hauns Brereton added 21, and Vander Joaquim notched 18 to pace the 'Bows attack.
