Hawaii to repave Hapuna park parking areas

HONOLULU (AP) - The state Department of Land and Natural Resources plans to begin repaving parts of parking areas at Hapuna Beach State Park.

The three-month project at the Big Island park begins Monday. It will remove existing asphalt, repair road shoulders and install new asphalt.

The park will remain open while the work is being done, but some areas will be closed for safety reasons.

Work won't be conducted on weekends.

Department Chairman William Aila said Wednesday he appreciates the patience and understanding of visitors and residents while the work is completed.

The park is a south of Kawaihae along Queen Kaahumanu Highway.
