A 65-year-old New York man drowned in waters off Lydgate Beach on Kauai Saturday afternoon.
The man had been swimming in waters off the south end of Lydgate Beach when he apparently got swept out.
An emergency call was made to police at about 3:25 p.m. Lifeguards from the Lydgate and Kelia beach towers, along with firefighters from the Kapa'a Station and a county park ranger then responded to the scene.
Rescuers located the unresponsive body roughly 25 yards off shore, floating further south of the area where he was last seen swimming.
He was transported to Wilcox Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
