(HawaiiNewsNow) - On Saturday, February 2, 2013, the 61st Cherry Blossom Festival Queen Contestants will make their first of four public appearances in various malls and shopping centers throughout Honolulu.

Public appearances allow the community to meet the Queen Contestants while learning more about the Cherry Blossom Festival's mission to perpetuate Japanese culture and heritage. Each appearance is free and open to the public and features cultural performances, keiki activities, and question-and-answer sessions that allow each Contestant to develop public speaking, poise and leadership skills.

The following is a list of all four public appearances:

· Saturday, February 2, 2013 - Kahala Mall - 12:00 pm Centerstage

· Saturday, February 9, 2013 - Windward Mall - 3:00 pm Centerstage

· Saturday, February 16, 2013 - Pearlridge Center Uptown - 12:00 pm Centerstage

· Saturday, March 9, 2013 - Ala Moana Center - 3:00 pm Centerstage

At all public appearances, Queen Contestants will wear special designs by Tori Richard, a Gold Sponsor. The 60th Cherry Blossom Festival Queen and Court will also appear.

One contestant will be crowned the 61st Cherry Blossom Festival Queen during this year's Festival Ball, which takes place Saturday, March 30, 2013 at 5 p.m. at the Hawai'i Convention Center.

The Cherry Blossom Festival is one of the longest, continually running ethnic festivals in the State of Hawai'i, which celebrates Japanese culture and heritage. Sponsored by the Honolulu Japanese Junior Chamber of Commerce, the 61st Cherry Blossom Festival spans from January to March 2013. Featured events include several community events open to the public, Golf Tournament, Contestant Reception and the highly-anticipated Festival Ball where a new Cherry Blossom Festival Queen and Court will be crowned.
