Dews coaches reunited this season

into one of the best in the nation.

Darton softball coach David Dews has built the Lady Cavalier program

Not surprising since David Dews learned the sport from another great coach his father Gene.

Father and son will be reunited this season.

With assistant coach Sam White leaving to become the head coach at Faulkner Community College in Alabama, David Dews decided the best person to be his next assistant was father Gene.

Gene Dews retired two years ago as the head coach at Wallace-Dothan where he won 450 games with the Lady Governors.

One of his assistant coaches during his tenure was son David.

Father is proud of the program his son has built at Darton.

"He has done well. he does things the right way. The kids on the program he puts that above anything sidetracking him," said Gene Dews.

"What better way than to bring the guy I started for as an assistant coach back with me. we are familiar with each other. we enjoy coaching with each other and we have a good time with it," said David Dews.

The Darton softball team opens their 2013 season Saturday with their annual tournament at the Kinchafoonee Complex in Leesburg.
