HILO, BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) -
A long-awaited campus makeover is finally ready for students at the University of Hawaii at Hilo.
The university celebrated the grand opening of its new bookstore.
"20 percent of the Hilo population is now students studying at the University of Hawai'i, and we need a bookstore that is big enough and modern enough really to reflect what their needs are," said UH Hilo Chancellor Donald Straney.
The bookstore is now located in the campus center and it's nearly twice the size of the old bookstore
"It's beautiful. I think they did an awesome job with it. It's so much more open and like how they are updating things on campus," said Hilo student Kristin Hardy.
The university spent four-million dollars on the upgrade.
