HONOLULU - (Hawaii Athletics) University
of Hawai‘i freshman outside hitter Sinisa "Siki" Zarkovic was named the Mountain
Pacific Sports Federation Molten Player of the Week following his performance
in the Warriors' two-match sweep of then-No. 2 Pepperdine.
Zarkovic
(Belgrade, Serbia/Sports Grammar School) averaged 4.25 kills per set while
hitting .393 during the series. He had a career-high 19 kills on .441 hitting
in the five-set win, along with two aces. The freshman served the final four
points of set five, including an ace at 13-11 which gave UH match point. He
also had 15 kills in the straight set victory and totaled six blocks and
averaged five points per set through the series.
Zarkovic
is the first UH player to receive player of the week honors since Jonas Umlauft
in 2011.
The
Warriors will host a two-match MPSF series against Stanford this weekend (Feb.
1-2) at the Stan Sheriff Center.
