Structure fire in Wailuku causes $50,000 of damage

WAILUKU, MAUI (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A structure fire was reported at Palani Place in Wailuku Heights Saturday morning.

The fire was reported by a passer-by who assisted with the evacuation of an elderly female occupant as well as the extinguishing of the fire by using a garden hose.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire at about 11 a.m.

The cause of the fire is still undetermined, but officials say it may have been caused by improper discarding of smoking materials.

Structure damage is estimated at $50,000.

No injuries were reported.
