22 arrests made in fugitive sweep on Kauai

Officials located and arrested 22 fugitives and cleared 34 state warrants during a three day fugitive sweep that began Tuesday on Kauai.

Task force officers arrested Portugal native Marco Paulo Rodrigues, 37, in Kapaia Valley locate don Grove Farm for multiple outstanding warrants.

Rodrigues, a green card holder, was sought by Kauai County officials for probation violation and criminal contempt of court. He was also charged with owner/possession of prohibited firearm.

During the arrest task force officers recovered ammunition, drug paraphernalia, and a .22 caliber rifle outside Rodrigues' tent. Rodrigues had eluded authorities on several occasions and was living at the campsite for about a month.

Rodrigues was booked into Kauai Community Correctional Center pending further court proceedings. He is being held on $11,500 bail.

In addition to the fugitive sweep, task force officers conducted a sex offender compliance sweep. Of the 120 names on the offender list, 103 sex offenders are compliant and 27 were non-compliant. Seventeen of the non-compliant sex-offenders were brought into compliance.
