Pro Bowl Practice Kicks Off, Hawaii's First Flu Death, Kulani Prison Hearing

PRO BOWL PRACTICE KICKS OFF

This morning, players invited to represent their teams at the Pro Bowl will practice for the first time at Kapolei High School. But, they've been put on notice by the NFL that if they don't raise the level of play, they could drop the all star game altogether. Here's something fans can cheer about. Pro Bowl cheerleaders will be live in our Sunrise studio this morning, and Mike Cherry will report live from practice at 7:30.

HAWAII'S FIRST FLU DEATH

Hawaii has its first confirmed death from the flu. A 4 year old girl died despite receiving tamiflu. The State says overall our flu season has been mild so far compared to the Mainland.

KULANI HEARING

The first of two public hearings on the re-opening of the Kulani correctional facility on the Big Island will happen at 4PM at the Aupuni Center in Hilo. It was closed in 2009 to save money, but in yesterday's State of the State, Governor Abercrombie said reopening Kulani by next July will restore jobs and "return more than $5 million a year to Hawaii currently spent on Arizona correctional facilities."

POWER OF PRESCHOOL

The Governor also mentioned the State's Readiness plan to make preschool available to more 4 year olds. At 7:40 on Sunrise, we'll sit down with the Executive Director of the Good Beginnings Alliance and Stacy Loe, the host of a special airing tonight called the Power of Preschool. You can see that at 6:30PM on KGMB or tomorrow at 6:30PM on KHNL.

See you on Sunrise!

Aloha,

Tannya Joaquin
