Kauai crews continue search for drowning victim off Kalihiwai Point

KALIHIWAI, KAUAI (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A high surf warning remains in effect for Kaua‘i's north and west shores as the Kaua‘i Fire Department continues its search for a second victim in Friday's double-drowning near Kalihiwai Bay

Crews recovered the body of Adam Griffiths, 46, on Saturday morning.  Griffiths and Brian Baker, 47, were drowned in heavy surf in a remote, rocky area south of Kalihiwai Bay late Friday afternoon.  Both men are visitors from San Francisco.

Kaua‘i remains in a high surf warning for north and west facing shores until 6:00 p.m. this evening. .  The fire department's Ocean Safety Bureau has closed all north shore beaches for today.  Beaches on Kaua‘i's east, south and west shores remain open.  Beachgoers are encouraged to utilize Lydgate, Po‘ipû and Hanapçpç Salt Pond Beach parks during this period of high surf.
