New UH athletics director takes over in Manoa

Ben Jay, the new athletics director at the University of Hawaii, will spend his first official day on the job in Manoa on Monday.

Jay, who was previously the senior associate athletic director for finance and operations at the Ohio State University, accepted an offer to become the UH's next athletic director in December.

As the Chief Financial Officer for the Buckeyes in Columbus, Jay oversaw a budget of more than $100 million dollars per year. He helped rebuild several athletic sites and oversaw the construction on a new softball stadium, according to The Columbus Dispatch.

Before his time at Ohio State, Jay served 13 years as Associate Commissioner for the Pac-10 Conference, and five years as Assistant Athletic Director for Business and Finance at Fairfield University in Connecticut.  Jay earned a Bachelor in Science in Business Administration (major: Accounting/minor: Finance) and Master of Arts in Physical Education (major: Athletics Administration), both from Ohio State University.  He is married and has three children.

Jay replaces Jim Donovan, who was reassigned to another post at the University back in July following the botched Stevie Wonder concert. Donovan accepted the athletics director job at California State University's Fullerton campus in December.
