HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -
A multiple vehicle crash involving a motorcyclist closed the westbound lanes of Moanalua Freeway Sunday afternoon.
The incident occurred in the area of the Tripler Hospital Off-Ramp at 1:38 p.m.
A man on a black 1997 motorcycle was speeding and cutting in and out of lanes along with a red 2010 Dodge Charger. The motorcyclist lost control of his bike and collided into a guardrail.
When police arrived on scene they found the motorcyclist, but not the driver of the Charger.
The 59-year-old motorcyclist of Kapolei suffered critical head injuries and was taken to the hospital in critical condition. He was not wearing a helmet.
Officials say speed is a factor in this crash, but are unclear as to whether alcohol was involved.
Honolulu police reopened the westbound lanes of Moanalua Freeway at 3:46 p.m.
