HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Hazardous ocean conditions have closed Hanauma Bay for the third straight day.
Ocean safety lifeguards inspected the bay Monday morning and concluded that strong and potentially dangerous rip currents were expected to continue. The surf is creating poor visibility. Although the surf has dropped to about six foot faces, it is still creating a public safety concern.
Conditions will be reassessed on Wednesday afternoon. Hanauma Bay is closed on Tuesdays.
Officials recommend snorkeling near the Natatorium in Waikiki as an alternative.
Ocean Safety is advising beach goers who go to other beaches to check with lifeguards before going into the water. Also, please remain a good distance away from any ledges. There is always a chance of a freak set washing up.
The popular snorkeling spot was closed over the weekend because of the conditions.
