HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Roads in Waimanalo were closed Thursday morning as police investigated a fatal pedestrian accident along Kalanianaole Highway.
The woman has been identified as 35-year-old Cecelia Paul.
Police say the accident happened at just after 1:00 a.m. on Thursday near Poalima and Moole streets. The woman is believed to have been homeless and intoxicated, police say.
According to Lt. Towne of the Honolulu Police Department's Traffic Division, the woman was walking along the side of Kalanianaole Highway when she was struck by a car being driven by a Kaneohe man in his early thirties. She was taken in extremely critical condition to the Queen's Medical Center, where she later died.
Roads in the area were reopened by police at around 4:20 a.m.
Police say they do not believe speed or alcohol were factors in the crash.
