Heavy rains on Maui prompt flood advisory

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory for the island of Maui effective until 1:15 p.m.

The advisory, which was issued at just after 10 a.m., stated that heavy rains over the windward slopes of Haleakala could lead to elevated water levels in streams in East Maui, including Oheo Gulch.

Residents are asked to stay away from streams, drainage ditches and other low lying areas prone to flooding.
