Thieves steal $300,000 in wiring from movie set

ATLANTA (CBS46) -

Police are investigating after someone stole about $300,000 worth of copper wire from the building in northwest Atlanta where Anchorman: The Legend Continues is being filmed.

Officers were called out to the building on Defoor Hill Road on Dec. 27.

They met with a man who worked on the property who said he got a call from the cable company, saying the building's router had gone offline on the afternoon of Dec. 25, according to police reports.

When he showed up on the 27th to meet with the phone company, he told officers that he discovered that the building had been broken into and the wire, as well as four computers, had been stolen, according to the report.

While police weren't sure how the suspect or suspects got into the building, they found a tool that was used to remove the copper wiring.

Then on Jan. 2, someone attempted to steal $2,000 worth of copper wire from the same location.

When the alarm went off, an Atlanta police officer got to the scene before the suspect could get away with the wire, according to police.

When the officer pulled up, he saw the suspect jump out of a Chevy Tracker and run off. The officer didn't find anyone else in the building, and was able to remove the wire from the SUV and return it to the building.

Police haven't made any arrests in either case.
