WAIPAHU, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -
The
City's Department of Environmental Services responded Monday morning to a
sanitary sewer overflow in Waipahu.
The
call came in just after 8:40 a.m. A crew arrived before 9 a.m. and
secured the site.
Grease
clogged a 10-inch pipe on Awamoi Street, discharging an estimated 3,500 gallons
of untreated wastewater from a manhole into Waikele Stream, which leads to
Pearl Harbor West Loch.
City
crews notified the state Department of Health. They cleaned, disinfected
and deodorized the affected area near the overflow. Warning signs are posted
and water sampling is underway. The public is advised to stay out of the
affected waterways until warning signs have been taken down.
