Rainbow Warriors Win Thriller

HONOLULU – Despite Isaac Fotu's 20 point first half, the Rainbow Warriors basketball team proved it's not how you start, but how you finish that matters.

In an electrifying game at the Stan Sheriff Center, the Bows downed Cal State Fullerton 90-88 on a last second buzzer beater by Garrett Jefferson, his only points of the night.

UH trailed 80-69 with 5:28 left in the game, but got back in it via the 3-point shot.  Brandon Jawato hit a pair, Manroop Clair hit one, as did Christian Standhardinger to give UH an 85-84 lead with 39 seconds left.

After a series of free throws made it 88-85 Hawaii with 17 seconds left, the Titans DJ Seeley hit a 3-pointer to tie it at 88 with 4.9 seconds remaining.  From there, Jefferson took the inbounds, went the length of the court, and hit the game winning floater.

While his two points were the difference, UH would not have been in the position to win the game without the amazing effort of Fotu.  The freshman scored the team's first 10 points of the game, before finishing with a career-high 29 to go with 9 rebounds.

The Rainbow Warriors are now 8-5 overall, 2-0 in Big West Conference play.
