AAA: Gas prices up in Honolulu

Retail gas prices seesawed over the past week throughout most of the Aloha State, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch.

The Hawaii state average for regular unleaded increased by two cents during the week to $3.98 per gallon, which was a nickel less than last month and three cents lower than last year.

Honolulu's average price $3.93 a gallon for regular unleaded – up four cents from last week, three cents less than last month and down six cents from a year ago.

In Hilo, the average gas price ticked down to $3.94 per gallon, a decline of six cents from last week, four cents less than last month and 26 cents less than this time last year. 

Wailuku's average is $4.01 a gallon, unchanged from last week, 15 cents less than last month and 32 cents lower than last year. 

"We are coming off one of the most expensive years in history at the retail pump for Hawaii motorists and drivers around the country," according to AAA Hawaii Branch Supervisor Cynthia Hall.  "This year, pump prices start lower than this time last year and over the past week prices were flat in Wailuku again and down in Hilo," she added.
