Woman killed in car crash on Maui

KAHULUI, MAUI (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A 61-year-old woman was killed during a car crash in Kahului on Tuesday, according to officials from the Maui Police Department.

The victim was identified on Wednesday as Constance Scott.

The accident happened at approximately 6:50 p.m., when the silver 1994 Toyota Camry Scott was a passenger in attempted to execute a left turn onto Wahine Pio Avenue.  As the Camry effected its turn, it was broadsided by a red 1989 Toyota pickup truck that was traveling south within the left inner lane of Kahului Beach Road.

Scott suffered fatal injuries and died following being transported to the Maui Memorial Medical Center Emergency Room.  The 64 year old male driver of the Camry was also transported to the Emergency Room, where he remained in stable condition. 

The 31 year old male driver of the Toyota pickup, and his 35 year old male passenger were not injured in the crash.

The posted speed limit in the area of the collision is 35 miles per hour. Vehicular traffic was rerouted around the affected area of the roadway while Police conducted their investigation.

This is Maui County's 1st fatal crash of 2013. The involvement of speed, alcohol, and drugs are still pending as this collision remains under investigation.
