HONOLULU – Warriors cornerback and kick returner Mike
Edwards is expected to announce his decision to forego his senior year and
enter the NFL Draft.
Edwards, who was the team's MVP and the Mountain West
Conference Special Teams Player of the Year, has been weighing the decision for
some time.
As early as November, Edwards commented publicly on the
impending decision, saying on the 28th "It's a decision I'll make
probably when I get home…whatever decision I make I know it'll be the best for
me."
Before the season began, Edwards was seen as a player who
could be taken on the latter half of the third day of the NFL Draft (rounds 6
& 7), but has seen his stock rise after his impressive junior campaign.
Edwards won numerous national awards to go along with his
team and conference honors, and they were well deserved. He returned three kickoffs for touchdowns,
setting UH single season and career records in the process. He led the FBS in total kickoff return yards
with 1215, and his average of 30.4 yards per return was 5th best.
Edwards is a native of Cleveland, Ohio. He has one brother and two sisters.
