HONOLULU – Another tough, close game. Another outcome decided by a missed final
shot. This time, it was the Wahine
coming up short.
Shawna Lei Kuehu's last second jumper rimmed out as Alabama
escaped with a 44-43 win in the final game of the Rainbow Wahine Invitational.
Laura Beeman's team was hoping for a second straight upset
of a power conference team after knocking off Cincinnati Saturday, but it wasn't
to be. There were positives to take from
the game, however. UH proved it can play
with power conference teams. The Wahine
are also in the midst of developing a gritty, never-say-die attitude as they
prepare for Big West Conference play.
As usual, Kamilah Martin led the way with 15 points and 10
rebounds. It was her tough rebounding
that helped keep UH in the game. Hawaii
outrebounded Alabama 53-36.
Beeman's team (4-7, 0-0) will now prepare for the Big West
opener, in California against CS-Fullerton on Thursday.
