Body of opihi picker recovered off Kona

The body of a man who went opihi picking Saturday morning was found about six hours later, floating face down off shore of Kona, authorities said.

Big Island fire officials said the man, a 40 to 45-year-old Caucasian, drowned. Investigators said the man went opihi picking off OTEC Road north of the Kona Airport at about 9 a.m.

Bystanders found the man shortly before 3:30 p.m., floating about 100 yards off shore.
