Victim of hit and run later arrested for bicycle theft

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A woman riding a bicycle who was involved in a hit-and-run accident early Friday morning was arrested after receiving medical treatment when it was discovered the bicycle had been reported stolen almost a year ago.

This morning at approximately 1:30 a.m., police officers were sent to a motor vehicle accident near the intersection of South Kuakini and Lusitana streets involving a bicyclist and a moped.

Police say the moped driver fled the scene prior to their arrival, and the female bicyclist was taken to the hospital.

During an investigation of the accident, though, it was discovered that the bicycle had reported stolen in January 2011. When the female was released from the hospital, she was arrested in connection with the case.
