LIHUE, Hawaii (AP) - A Kauai Grand Jury returned an indictment on Thursday against Justin Wynn Klein, a 37-year-old homeless man who is accused of throwing a Japanese national who was camping in the Kalalau Valley off a cliff.
Klein is being still on the loose and is being pursued by police on attempted murder charges.
The Japanese woman who was visiting Hawaii when she was pushed from the cliff and critically injured was been released from the hospital on Thursday
In a statement, Prosecuting Attorney Justin F. Kollar thanked the investigators and others who helped bring the case to court.
"It is due to their hard work and diligence, under challenging circumstances, that we were able to bring this case to the Grand Jury quickly, stated Prosecuting Attorney Kollar. "We hope Mr. Klein is apprehended soon."
Police are appealing to the public for help in finding Klein. Police Chief Darryl Perry says officers have conducted a multi-agency search and sweep of the valley, but Klein has not been located.
Bail in the case has been set at $1 million dollars.
