Man dies in Kauai motorcycle crash

HANAPEPE, KAUAI (HawaiiNewsNow) - A 25-year old man driving a motorcycle died on Wednesday night following a traffic collision near the Kaumuali'i Highway/Puolo Road junction in Hanapepe.

The victim was identified by Kauai police as Brian Cesario of Kalâheo.

According to a preliminary report, Cesario was traveling east on Kaumuali'i Highway at around 6:30 p.m. when he collided with a westbound Ford F-150 making a left turn from the highway onto Puolo Road.

Paramedics transported Cesario to Kaua'i Veteran's Memorial Hospital, where he later died.

He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.

The 71-year-old male driver of the Ford pickup reported minor injuries.

Kaumuali'i Highway, in the vicinity of Mile Marker 17, was closed in both directions for roughly four hours. Traffic was diverted onto Hanapçpç Road until the highway could be reopened shortly before 11 p.m.

The crash remains under investigation.

This is the eighth traffic fatality on Kaua'i this year.
