Churches to honor victims of Sandy Hook school shooting

Churches in Fairfield County are planning to ring bells Monday night in honor of the victims of the Newtown school shooting.

Adam Lanza had two pistols and an AR-15 when he entered Sandy Hook Elementary School on Dec. 14 and in just a matter of minutes, he fired multiple rounds killing 20 children and six adults. Before the school shooting, he shot his mother four times.

The members of Bridgeport's East End Community Council are asking all the Christian churches with bells in Connecticut, especially Fairfield County, to ring them at the top of every hour from 9 p.m. to midnight Monday night.

"Let us unite and stand together as the bells of Fairfield County ring," Fred Ketcher of the council said in an email Monday.

Each hour will represent a different theme with the first being faith, second being hope, third being charity and the fought being unity.

"We pray this is something to enlighten the people of Fairfield County and hopefully an example for other towns of what is the spirit of Christmas," Ketcher said.
