Former congressman Ed Case bids for Senate seat

Posted: Updated:

HONOLULU (AP) - Former U. S. Congressman Ed Case has thrown his hat in the ring for appointment to the U.S. Senate to fill the vacancy created by last week's death of Senator Daniel Inouye.

Case announced Sunday that he has sent a letter to members of the Democratic Party of Hawaii's Central Committee, who will forward a list of 3 nominees to Gov. Neil Abercrombie.

Abercrombie is expected to announce the appointee to fill Inouye's seat on Wednesday. The nominee will be sworn in on Thursday.

Case served as congressman from 2002 to 2007. During his tenure, he served on the committees on budget, education and the workplace, small business and agriculture, and as vice chair of the Democratic Caucus Tax Policy and Budget Task Force.
