President and First Lady to attend public memorial for Inouye in Hawaii

President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama plan to attend a public memorial ceremony for Sen. Daniel K. Inouye in Honolulu Sunday, Hawaii News Now has learned.

Services for the World War II veteran and Medal of Honor recipient begin at 10 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 23 at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl.

Due to heightened security requirements, all members of the public must go to the Alapai Transit Center to undergo a security screening prior to boarding buses that will take them to the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific. People may park either in the Alapai Transit Center Parking Garage, or in the Civic Center Parking Garage.

There will NOT be shuttle-bus services from any schools. Pedestrians will NOT be allowed to enter the cemetery as walk-in visitors.

The cemetery will be closed to all individuals not utilizing the bus service from the Alapai Transit Center.
