JOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR-HICKAM (HawaiiNewsNow) -

President Barack Obama and his family are spending the Christmas holidays on Oahu.

Air Force One, carrying the first family, touched down at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam at 12:05 a.m. Saturday. About ten minutes after landing, the aircraft came to a stop on the tarmac.

The president, first lady, and their daughters Sasha and Malia came down the stairs and into a waiting SUV, which then departed Hickam in a motorcade for Kailua.

The arrival was not open to the public. Only members of the media and personnel connected with the president's arrival were present. The president did not make any statement.

The president and the first lady are expected to attend the funeral service for Sen. Daniel Inouye's Sunday at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl. Other than that, the White House said there were no other public appearances scheduled while the first family is here.

This will be the first family's fifth Christmas in Hawaii since he was elected president.

Earlier Friday, President Obama spoke to reporters about the looming 'fiscal cliff.'  Obama said this is a good time for lawmakers to get some perspective and come back and get a deal done.

"So, as we leave town for a few days to be with our families for the holidays, I hope it gives everybody some perspective.  Everybody can cool off; everybody can drink some eggnog, have some Christmas cookies, sing some Christmas carols, enjoy the company of loved ones.  And then I'd ask every member of Congress while they're back home to think about that.  Think about the obligations we have to the people who sent us here. "

This could be a short Christmas vacation for the president. He wrapped up his news conference saying, "I will see you next week ."
