Details for Sunday's memorial service for Sen. Daniel Inouye at Punchbowl

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

The public is invited to a memorial service for Sen. Daniel K. Inouye in Honolulu at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl.

Services for the World War II veteran and Medal of Honor recipient begin at 10 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 23.

Due to heightened security requirements, all members of the public must go to the Alapai Transit Center to undergo a security screening prior to boarding buses that will take them to the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific. People may park either in the Alapai Transit Center Parking Garage, or in the Civic Center Parking Garage.

There will NOT be shuttle-bus services from any schools. Pedestrians will NOT be allowed to enter the cemetery as walk-in visitors.

The cemetery will be closed to all individuals not utilizing the bus service from the Alapai Transit Center.

Seating at the memorial service at Punchbowl will be limited.  As a result, tickets will be distributed at the Alapai Transit Center Parking Garage on a first-come, first-served basis. 

Only those members of the public with tickets and riding the dedicated buses/HandiVan will be allowed into the cemetery to attend the memorial service.

Buses will begin departing from the Alapai Transit Center at 7 a.m..

Members of the public who wish to attend the service are advised to be at the Alapai Transit Center as early as possible to receive tickets. 

All attendees will go through airport-like security.  Please bring as few personal items as possible.  Bags, sharp objects, umbrellas, liquids other than bottled water, and signs are prohibited.  Bottled water, cameras and cell phones are permitted.
