HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Retail gas prices declined again over the past week throughout Hawaii at a faster rate than during the prior week, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch.

The Hawaii state average for regular unleaded declined by three cents during the week to $3.97 per gallon, which was 13 cents less than last month and six cents lower than last year.

Honolulu's average price dropped to $3.89 a gallon for regular unleaded – three cents less than last week, 13 cents less than last month and even with the price a year ago.

In Hilo, the average gas price slipped again to $3.96 per gallon, down three cents from last week, four cents less than last month and 26 cents less than this time last year.

Wailuku's average is $4.01 a gallon, one cent less than last week, 26 cents less than last month and 35 cents lower than last year.

"Relief is being felt by motorists across the country as pump prices continue to fall approaching the busy year-end holiday travel period. These prices have been driven lower by a number of factors, including increasing gasoline inventories; cheaper crude oil prices; lower demand; and economic concerns," according to AAA Hawaii Branch Supervisor Cynthia Hall.
