HONORING SENATOR INOUYE'S LIFE AND LEGACY

Senator Inouye's coffin will lie in state at the US Capitol rotunda for 24 hours as a sign of respect for his decades of service to our nation first, as a young serviceman then as a Congressman and Senator. His wife Irene says he would have been "overwhelmed." Vice President Joe Biden is scheduled to make remarks this morning at 5AM Hawaii time. Hawaii News Now's Keoki Kerr is in Washington D.C. He'll join us with a live report from the Capitol Rotunda starting on Sunrise Early Edition at 4:30 on KGMB. We'll have complete coverage live throughout the morning.

HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE

It's a rare honor for someone who's not President to lie in state. We'll talk to a Senate historian with Hawaii ties about the significance of this tribute to Senator Inouye.

HAWAII PREPARES TO SAY ALOHA

Today's remembrances are the first of several days of Memorials to the Late Senator stretching from Washington D.C. to Hawaii. A large turnout is expected at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl on Sunday to say Aloha to the Senator.

SENATOR'S LIFE IN PHOTOS

As we honor the life and legacy of Daniel Inouye, we invite you to leave your condolences on our Hawaii News Now facebook page and take a look back at his life in photos on our website.

Our special coverage starts this morning at 4:30.

Aloha,

Tannya Joaquin

Trump has already rejected the idea of bringing in the FBI to reopen its background check of Kavanaugh. Should he order such a review, it would likely delay a confirmation vote until after the election.
