HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Nearly $2 million in counterfeit items were seized in Chinatown on Wednesday after agents with Homeland Security Investigations (HIS) and U.S. Immigration executed search warrants.
The more than 2,000 counterfeit items include purses and wallets bearing counterfeit trademarks for well-known brands including Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Gucci.
Officials say if the items had been genuine, they would have retailed for more than $1.8 million.
The seizures are part of Operation Holiday Hoax, an international law enforcement effort targeting the importation and distribution of counterfeit and pirated products.
Holiday Hoax is designed not only to protect companies that make copyrighted products, but also unwitting buyers, including holiday shoppers, who are being fleeced by these fakes.
The items seized were from one vendor, no arrests have been made, however indictments could be in the works.
The investigation continues.
