MAUI (HawaiiNewsNow) -

One man is dead and another was transported to the hospital in serious but stable condition after a head-on collision on the Honoapiilani Highway that occurred Wednesday morning.

Maui Now reports that medics from Lahaina and Napili were dispatched to the scene near the Olowalu landfill between mile posts 15 and 16.

Two vehicles were involved in the crash. A man who appeared to be in his twenties was pronounced dead on scene while a 37-year-old man in the other car was found in serious but stable condition.

Honoapiilani Highway is closed due to the accident. Police are utilizing Cane-Haul Road to alleviate the traffic flow.
