HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -
Fire officials say 8,564 firecracker permits were sold on Oahu up until the last day they were available for purchase, Dec. 21.
The Honolulu Fire Department says this is about the same amount of permits sold last year, but significantly less than 2010 when 10,008 permits were sold, the highest number during the past five years.
Firecrackers may not be set off on Oahu without a permit. Firecrackers go on sale Dec. 26 and will be available until midnight on New Year's Eve.
Firecrackers may be set off from 9 p.m. on
Dec. 31, 2012 until 1 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2013.
